Cedar Waxwings

Cedar Waxwing, pen & ink sketch done in Moleskine journal

The cedar waxwings were busy sunning themselves on this balmy 34 degree day.  The 30 inches of snow we have on the ground doesn’t seem to bother them.  They were quite relaxed and allowed me to  photograph them and complete several quick sketches.

I’m enamored with these masked “superhero” birds.  Today, I saw these birds at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  While I’ll gladly watch waxwings wherever I can, I’ve got my fingers crossed that by next winter the serviceberry, juniper and other fruit-bearing bushes I’ve added will coax these little guys to my backyard.  What a treat that will be!
